Marthas Guest House Is in Butere village in Kenya, East Africa region. 34Km away from lake Victoria, and 8km from Maseno Equator. 20km from Kakamega Forest birds sanctuary 30km from Mount. Elgon National Park. The story goes that in 1932 it was the first permanent structure in the area which amazed Queen Elizabeth II, promting her sister Princess Margaret to open the house and present a special congratulatory message to the owner.

Marthas Guest House Stands in a dusty village in Butere District, which has the marks of royalty in it, having stood the test of ages. The center has curved a special place in the locality. The story goes that in 1932 it was the first permanent structure in the area which amazed Queen Elizabeth II, promting her sister Princess Margaret to open the house and present a special congratulatory message to the owner.

History

• Initally it was called Monkey's house following the invasion of the apes owing to its location in the forest at that time.It was the home of the late James Shiraku Inyundo a former worker of East Africa Railways and Harbour.It was renamed after his wife later in the years. Also you may find one of the world famous "black history" the two man eaters of Tsavo. It talks more about the construction of the railways on 1895 to 1901.
